Description:
Our Questa, NM molybdenum mine and mill produces and sells high quality Molybdenum Concentrates (MoS2). The concentrates are also used as feedstock for the production of our Moly Oxide (MoO3) product. Headquartered in Englewood, Co., Chevron Mining Inc. has more than 1400 employees. Through this diversified mining company, we market coal and other minerals to domestic and international customers. Until September 2007, mining operations were conducted under The Pittsburgh & Midway Mining Co. and Molycorp Inc. both wholly owned subsidiaries of Chevron Corporation. The companies were merged into Chevron Mining Inc. Founded in 1885, The Pittsburgh & Midway Coal Mining Co. has been one of the oldest continuously operating mining companies in the United States. Chevron Mining Inc. operates two surface mines – McKinley in New Mexico, and Kemmerer in Wyoming, as well as the North River Mine, an underground operation, in Alabama. Molycorp was obtained as part of the Unocal acquisition in 2005. Formed in 1920, Molycorp operated an underground molybdenum mine in Questa, New Mexico and an open-pit rare earth mine in Mountain Pass, California. Molybdenum is primarily used as an alloying agent in steel. Rare earths are used in a wide-array of high-tech products, including hybrid cars, communications systems and advanced military applications. Chevron Mining Inc. also owns a 33 percent interest in Sumikin Molycorp, which manufactures rare earth compounds at its facilities in Japan.
